Are you on the YM parent email list? This is the best way to get up to date information about youth ministry and deadline reminders. Please email Marissa with a request to be added to the list. Christian Formation Registration for the 2012-2013 School Year If your teen participates in any of the following please register him/her: The Edge, Life Teen, Youth Band, Retreats & Trips, Peer Ministry, Confirmation, or RCIA Please mail to: Janet Virtue 8651 Biggs Ford Rd. Walkersville, MD 21793 or Drop off at the Parish Center Bibles are available for $20.
Archdiocesan Healthy Relationships Middle School: In the youth ministry setting we offer a program called Created to Love. In Central Maryland this is offered every other year to our middle school youth in a 3 hour workshop format to be attended by the youth and their parents. This year's workshop will be held on Saturday, January 12th from 2:30-5:30pm at St Peters in Libertytown. I encourage parents to take a look at the materials ahead of time. You always have the option of completing the program at home with your child. High School For high school youth we cover 2 out of the 4 topics each year. So over the course of 2 years the teen will receive all of the information. Some may be lucky enough to hear it more than once! Snack Ministry: We no longer offer snacks at all Sunday youth ministry gatherings, but when we do these are great guidelines. Snack tips: 1. Please bring individually packaged drinks like juice boxes. Try to avoid caffeine. It is a school night. 2. Individually packaged snacks are also preferable. 3. If you bring bags of cookies or chips and 2 liters of soda please take home any leftovers that have been opened. We don't have the storage space and the food just goes bad. 4. Do not bring any peanut products. Edge parents please avoide foods that may contain treenuts. 5. Please arrive in the gym by 7:55 to set up snack and stay until the entire snack area has been cleaned. Right now plan for 70 teens for both Life Teen and Edge nights. Janet will mail you a postcard the week you are to bring snack to serve as a reminder. She will also give you an estimated number of teens to feed along with the names and phone numbers of the parents you are brining snack with. If you can bring snack on one of the available dates listed below please email Janet and she'll sign you up.
Clean up Ministry We are also asking parents to stay and help clean up once over the course of the year. Help us with tables and chairs, taking out the trash etc.
DRIVER'S FORM Are you planning on carpooling for a YM trip? Have you had STAND training and a driver's check yet? If you're not sure ask Janet Janet. Thank you Marissa's Office Hours: Generally speaking these are the hours when I will be in my office. Feel free to call or visit during these hours. Mondays 12:30-4 Tuesdays 9-12 Wednesdays 9-4 Thursdays off Fridays 9-4 Parent help is always needed to assist with our youth ministry programs. If you are able to assist with any of the following please let Marissa know: * Currently looking for a parent to offer Worthy of the Call Training to our high school teens 3 times a year. It's a 2 hour commitment. You simply walk through a video and hand-out with our teens. Please contact Marissa if you are willing to take on this task.
NO Cellphones! Cell phones and other electronic devises like ipods have become a growing problem at youth ministry events. They pose a great distraction to the teens and adults. Even when teens are away on a trip I ask that they leave their cell phones at home. Your teen will always be with an adult who has a phone he/she can use. Often times parents tell their teens to keep their phones off and in their bags or purse – this does not work! Teens like to stay up all night texting each other, sneaking off into the bathrooms during the day to call their significant others etc. We have so little time with your child to help them grow in their faith, please keep the distractions of cell phones and ipods at home. If we see teens with cell phones we will take them until the end of the event. Deadlines Please turn in all money and permission slips to the Christian Formation office by the deadline advertised. It causes a lot of extra work and stress for me when I have to chase down paperwork. If it is past a due date and your child really wants to attend then please call me. Do not have your teen call me because I will not know if they are communicating with you or not. Thank you for your understanding.
