“Everyone is looking for you.” Mark 1:29-39
Of course everyone was looking for Jesus. He cured the sick and drove out demons. They believed in Him because of what
they had seen Him do. But when they listened to Him speak did they believe what He had to say? Jesus would tell those
that He healed, “It is your faith that has healed you.” Consider the contrast in today’s first reading (Job 7:1-4, 6-7). Job
recounts his life of drudgery, loss and pain. This passage concluded with, “I shall not see happiness again.” But Job did not
lose faith in God when the Lord allowed Satan to test him. Because of his faith, God restores Job’s fortunes and gives him
a beautiful family. Faith that cannot endure when tested is not genuine faith. So long as Jesus stayed in Capernaum and
healed the sick and drove out demons, they believed in Him. The test of their faith is whether they continued to believe in
Him when He left to preach the gospel to others. Our challenge is similar. Do we truly believe the faith that has been
passed on to us. How do we share our gift of faith?

Prayers for the Sick throughout February
We have been blessed so far with a blessedly mild winter. Nevertheless, winter places special hardships on the elderly,
homebound, those in hospitals and nursing care, in therapy, or managing serious illness. Throughout the month we will
remember those you commend to our prayers. List the names of those you wish to remember on the envelope included in
today’s bulletin. The List of the Sick is posted at the back of Church and will be published in the bulletin at month’s end.
